OK I’m Sober, Now What?

Getting sober can be the beginning of recovery. It isn’t the end of the story.

A developing nonfiction project about what comes after the immediate crisis—and the challenge of building a life that someone genuinely wants to remain sober for.

The Project

Sobriety changes the question.

For many people, enormous attention is placed on getting sober: surviving the crisis, entering treatment, putting down the substance, and making it through the first days and months.

But eventually another question arrives: Now what?

OK I’m Sober, Now What? looks beyond the immediate crisis toward the practical and personal work of rebuilding. It explores what happens when the structure of treatment begins to fall away and ordinary life—with its relationships, responsibilities, disappointments, opportunities, and choices—returns.

The project asks not simply how someone stays sober, but how they begin creating a life in which sobriety has something meaningful to protect.
